Tonya Martin, lead trainer and owner
With over 20 years experience in the personal wellness industry, Tonya Martin combines traditional fitness training with ongoing certification in new, scientifically proven methods.
Her primary mission at Get Fit MAT Pilates is to help people improve mobility and stability—something she calls mo-stability—and to help clients create consistency with efficiency in their strength training routines.
“I train people the way I treat myself,” says Tonya, whose interest in the wellness industry started early as a child as she suffered from foot, hip and knee issues. “And that’s from the nutritional aspect to the fitness training. I won’t ask anyone to do anything I haven’t done myself, or don’t believe in.”
Today, Tonya incorporates Pilates, personal training and muscle recovery techniques (MAT) to work with clients ranging in ages from 11 to 91. In a small class setting, Tonya gives personal attention to clients working to improve overall wellness, lose weight, improve athletic performance, or recover from pain or injury.
Tonya opened Get Fit Inc. as a one-to-one personal training studio in 1997. Soon Tonya incorporated classical Pilates to address the needs of individuals who needed to work more on stabilizing core muscles and balance.
In 2002, hoping to help clients recover from back pain or other soreness that exercise alone couldn’t address, Tonya began incorporating the muscle recovery method with Muscle Activation Techniques.
